Interwoven to Power New Walgreens Internet Pharmacy
Nations Largest Retail Pharmacy Chain Moves to the Web with Interwoven eBusiness Platform
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug 17, 1999 - Interwoven, Inc., a leading provider of content management software for the enterprise Web, today announced that Walgreens.com will use Interwoven TeamSite to develop and manage Web content for its new Internet pharmacy. The interactive Internet pharmacy will offer online prescription medication orders and refills, personalized prescription history and an extensive library of medical and health-related information. TeamSites ease of use and open architecture will allow Walgreens to accelerate the launch of the Internet pharmacy and establish itself as a benchmark for online pharmacy services.
Interwoven partner USWeb/CKS (NASDAQ: USWB), a leading Internet professional services firm, was selected earlier this year by Walgreens to design and develop the new site. USWeb/CKS recommended Interwoven TeamSite to Walgreens because of its scalability, ease of implementation and open architecture. Together, Interwoven and USWeb/CKS will implement TeamSite for the Internet pharmacy.
Walgreens Internet Pharmacy
Walgreens has a reputation for applying technical innovation to provide its customers with comprehensive and flexible services. For example, unlike Internet-only pharmacies, Walgreens.com customers will be able to submit orders online and choose between home delivery or pick-up at one of the 2,755 Walgreens stores.
The Internet pharmacy will be a highly personalized, consumer-oriented eCommerce site, stated Tim McCauley, manager - information technology, new business development at Walgreens. Customers will be able to fill prescriptions and view prescription history via a secure, password-protected area. We currently manage Web content manually, which can be a tedious and time-consuming process. Interwoven TeamSite will be the key to managing the increased amount of content on our new site.
TeamSites scalability, hybrid architecture and openness were decisive factors in Walgreens selection of Interwoven. In particular, it will enable the Walgreens development team to QA and test each new version of the Web site, including the user experience of retrieving prescription data from backend databases. The open architecture will enable Walgreens to leverage existing technology, business processes and content. TeamSites ability to integrate with Art Technology Groups Dynamo Server Suite allows for highly managed content with targeted personalization, ensuring that Walgreens will be able to provide the best online information and service for its customers.
To accelerate Walgreens move to the Web, they needed a content management platform that would both empower a broad contributor base and include sophisticated workflow capabilities to ensure brand control, stated Jeffrey Engelmann, vice president of business development at Interwoven. The combined strength of Interwoven and its partners USWeb/CKS and ATG provides Walgreens with the technology and know-how to leverage the trusted Walgreens brand online.
