Interwoven TeamSite Chosen to Bring Online Natural History Site to Life
SUNNYVALE, Calif., November 16th, 1999 - Interwoven Inc. (NASDAQ:
IWOV), a leading provider of content management software for the enterprise
Web, today announced that The Natural History Museum has chosen Interwoven
TeamSite to manage its website content and help develop its virtual museum
experience. The Natural History Museum, London, a leading visitor attraction
and world-renowned scientific institution, will use TeamSite to develop
its interactive site and add eCommerce capabilities. The new site is scheduled
to go live in February 2000.
The Natural History Museum plans to use TeamSite to increase the quantity
of interactive material available, creating an informative and engaging
experience for its wide range of online visitors. It also plans to develop
eCommerce capabilities for its picture library, Museum Membership, online
bookshop and gift shop.
With over 350 scientists on site and a great number of other potential
contributors, The Natural History Museum will use TeamSite to empower
technical and non-technical staff to develop and test web content prior
to publication. The TeamSite advanced workflow engine will allow the Museum
to create customized approval processes for different groups working across
the site. TeamSite Templating provides a simple interface for adding textual
and graphic elements, ensuring a consistent look and feel is maintained
while still allowing for site-wide diversity of content.
"Sprawling HTML file systems and taxonomic trees have a lot in common.
In both cases, keeping a handle on the many branches and subsections can
be a daunting task," said Jane Hogg, head of publishing at The Natural
History Museum. "With TeamSite we can redirect resources into more dynamic
development and new initiatives, while still delivering a fully-functioning
published site. TeamSite allows us to develop areas on our site for many
different audiences worldwide with a small, centralized team. It can support
many contributors across the Museum, each with ownership of their website
area, while maintaining central coordination.
"The hybrid architecture of TeamSite means that file objects and database
objects can both be managed" commented Mike Lowndes, the Museum web manager.
"There was no need to implement a database to manage our current web content.
However, TeamSite will allow us to move in this direction as the sophistication
of our website requires. This was an important factor in our choice of
Interwoven," continues Mike Lowndes.
David Ogidi, Interwoven's UK managing director, said: "As we build our
business across Europe, we are delighted to welcome The Natural History
Museum as a distinguished name to our customer list. Interest in the history
of the natural world hasn't precluded The Natural History Museum from
being a Web innovator. Business ought to learn the lesson from natural
history: evolve or die."
