PortalReady SDK Provides Faster Time-to-Portal, Future Proof Framework and Enterprise-Class Performance
Sunnyvale, Calif. - June 26, 2001 - Interwoven, Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV), the leading provider of Content Infrastructure software, today announced the PortalReady SDK (Software Development Kit), an open standards-based interface for rapidly integrating portal software with Interwoven's Content Infrastructure.
The PortalReady SDK, built on the recently announced Interwoven OpenAPI will provide:
- Faster time-to-portal - single development interface for all portal solutions
- Future-proof framework - open and standards-based
- Enterprise scalability - high performance through function-level integration
Faster Time-to-Portal
One of the greatest challenges in portal initiatives is integrating the portal infrastructure with existing eBusiness initiatives. The PortalReady SDK provides a single, development interface designed to support all portal initiatives and allows customers and systems integrators to integrate the portal, regardless of vendor - quickly and easily.
"Customers seeking to implement Portals have faced considerable challenges defining an effective means to manage content for presentation through the portal which in turn has slowed the success of the portal project and delayed the return on the investment," said Robert Perry, senior analyst at the Yankee Group. "The introduction of a standards-based, extensible integration framework by Interwoven targeted at connecting the portal directly to the Content Infrastructure will overcome this obstacle and help facilitate successful portal implementations."
As a leading systems integrator who is building a practice around portals and Content Infrastructure, iXL is intimately familiar with the priorities of large-scale implementations. "At iXL, we see eCommerce application and enterprise information portal (EIP) requirements converging for our clients," said Sanjay Apte, global managing partner for iXL technology services. "Interwoven's PortalReady SDK will greatly facilitate the rapid implementation of a vital Content Infrastructure (CI) by providing the capability to manage information at both the CI and the content delivery layers. Ultimately, we expect this product to expand and enhance iXL's record of successfully delivering Interwoven solutions."
A Future-Proof Framework
Customers balk at getting locked into proprietary architectures. The PortalReady SDK is built on the popular SOAP and XML standards and provides support to both .Net and J2EE for all portal environments. In addition, the PortalReady SDK includes a function-rich, customer-extensible framework designed to grow with evolving portal requirements and support enhancements to Content Infrastructure.
"By integrating our portal initiatives with Interwoven's Content Infrastructure, we will be able to serve our immediate needs for timely, relevant portal content," said Bo Berg, vice president of eCommerce at City National Bank. "We are also confident that Interwoven's open architecture and extensible framework will provide us the scalability and flexibility needed as we continuously evolve."
Enterprise-Class Performance and Scalability
Because portals are designed to span across global enterprises, performance is critical. Through function-level integration, the PortalReady SDK delivers the performance necessary for enterprise-class scalability. In particular, a portal-specific abstraction layer simplifies portal integrations and reduces unnecessary network traffic, ensuring high performance for the tens of thousands of users accessing rich Content Infrastructure services.
"Until now many portal implementations have not reached their full potential," said Tom Steding, vice president of Interwoven's portal business unit. "The PortalReady SDK was designed to allow customers and systems integrators to quickly get their portal initiatives into production and ensure their long-term viability with an open, standards-based approach."
Interwoven will also be providing certification support to portal partners employing the PortalReady SDK for integration, including certification criteria and reporting, to ensure that customers have the highest confidence in the resulting solution. The PortalReady SDK will be available in Q3.
