E-Gov Conference, WASHINGTON, DC - June 24, 2002 - Interwoven, Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV), the leader in Enterprise Content Management, today launched the Interwoven Solution for Government, a proven, scalable platform for content management that helps federal, state, and local governments build initiatives such as public-facing citizen portals and internal facing agency portals and meet key government mandates to make electronic information and technology accessible to all people. The Interwoven government offering is built on top of the leading Interwoven 5 platform and includes ECM capabilities tailored to the specialized needs of E-Government.

Michigan's Oakland County Gives Residents Easy Access to Vital Government Services
Oakland County Michigan built a Citizen Portal on IBM's WebSphere Portal Server that enables local residents to access more than 60 county offices including the county Clerk/Registrars/Elections Office, County Commissioner, County Courts, Health Department, and Information Technology. Oakland County selected Interwoven enterprise content management because of its ability to best support the creation and management of content for the portal, allowing dozens of employees to easily publish and update graphics, documents, and other assets for the portal.
"Interwoven's ECM Solution for eGovernment is a positive next step in assuring government agencies, and the citizens whom they serve, that information is not only easy to access but also easy to contribute," said Phil Bertolini, director IT for Oakland County. "When content creators collaborate on the contribution process and take ownership of continuous site upgrades, the public can access government portals like Oakland County and find critical content that is fresh and relevant."
Interwoven and E-Government: Crossing the Digital Divide
Recently, the Bush administration made it clear that E-Government transformation is a top priority, and "Expanding Electronic Government" is one of the five government-wide initiatives specified in the President's Management Agenda. From Section 508 of the amendments to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 to the Office of Management & Budget's 24 initiatives that comprise its E-Government Strategy, agencies are under increasing pressure and scrutiny to meet key mandates at the federal, state and local levels. The mandates, in concert with the challenges listed above, are driving expanded use of technology at an unprecedented pace. As a result, agencies must seek to implement a platform for managing content that can span the volume of initiatives and can ensure their ability to meet key mandates.
Key Features of the Interwoven Solution for Government
- Easy to Use: Provides a simple interface with standardized templates for content contribution, e-mail notification and publishing with Interwoven FrontOffice.
- Secure: Builds on a solid security model to control access and permissions set within user stores to enable thousands of contributors to work with secure content in multiple geographic locations.
- Scalable: Enables users to scale content management needs from a single initiative or site to multiple initiates, sites and portals - all running off the same Interwoven 5 server.
- Proven: Provides proven, packaged integrations that are pre-built by key partners such as portal, search and security vendors that allow sites to be built quickly and reliably.
"Government agencies are faced with multiple content initiatives, from citizen-focused portals and sites to inter- and intra-agency portals," said Andy Warzecha, senior vice president at META Group. "Government agencies must conform to regulated needs that typically drive collaboration and information sharing requirements. These all must be managed within a secure platform that provide robust approval processes and easy strategic content contribution."
"Interwoven has long been at the forefront of the government's move to improve and automate information access for the public. We have helped many agencies develop properties, especially "Citizen Portals," that deliver simple, easy-to-find data from multiple government organizations," said Jack Jia, CTO of Interwoven. "With this offering, Interwoven deepens its commitment to providing secure, scalable and cost-effective solutions that ultimately will reduce the public's dependence on paper transactions while boosting their agencies' reliability and efficiency."
With a number of emerging federal standards regarding content in the government sector, Interwoven is committed to enabling its customers' compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act Amendments, Department of Defense legislation 5015.2, and Government Paperwork Elimination Act of 1988.
