Hundreds of Partners, Customers, and Industry Analysts Affirm Content Management's Mission-Critical Role in Driving Enterprise Success

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - November 1, 2002 - Interwoven, Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV), a world leader in Enterprise Content Management (ECM), this week concluded its third annual user conference with a consistent theme across keynotes, track sessions, and informal conversations. More than 700 participants supported the trend that content management is moving to prominence as a mission-critical layer in the enterprise's core application infrastructure.

"GearUp 2002 has been a great forum for sharing content management best practices, which we can directly apply to helping us get more from our Interwoven investment," said Rich Lange, managing director, Internet communications at Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. "Over the past year, content management has become more critical because it can be directly tied to driving down costs and making employees more productive."

During the more than 40 track sessions, dominant themes discussed among presenters and attendees included the crucial role ECM plays in:
- Driving productivity throughout the organization

- Containing costs while maximizing existing technology investments

- Maintaining control of brand and intellectual property across a global enterprise

As Caspar Weinberger discussed in his keynote address, in today's climate, successful enterprises must balance their need between globalization and centralization. Customers such as Shell confirmed that ECM can enable globalization while maintaining central control.

Customers Demonstrate Real World Success with Interwoven ECM
Customer presenters from a variety of industries and multiple countries, covered topics ranging from the role ECM plays in Web Application Management to how businesses are realizing ROI with their content initiatives.

As one example, Henrik Bo Larsen, project manager eBusiness, international marketing, Novo Nordisk, outlined how for two years the Denmark-based healthcare company has powered its eBusiness initiatives with Interwoven. "Interwoven's open architecture, proven content reuse, and easy rollout allowed Novo Nordisk to achieve rapid ROI on a wide range of initiatives including the development of a Web service and component library based on Interwoven and Microsoft .Net technology," said Larsen. "Interwoven also provides the scalability we need to manage more than one million documents that support Internet and intranet projects spanning multiple countries and languages."

When asked about this year's GearUp conference, veteran Interwoven customer Chris Strout, site manager of Aon Corporation, commented, "GearUp 2002 has been great for several reasons: not only has it provided clear direction on the Interwoven roadmap that will help me think through my own company's future content management needs, but it also gave me a chance to re-establish ties with various Interwoven users and content management experts I met during last year's conference. A highlight was discussing with fellow customers how to leverage Interwoven ECM to solve new business challenges we're all facing - no matter the industry vertical or the content initiative."

"It was the general consensus at GearUp that content management has moved from internet-centric to enterprise-centric. In other words, content management has become core to the enterprise application infrastructure because the effective use of content is critical to productivity, business efficiency, and control of intellectual capital," said John Van Siclen, president and CEO of Interwoven. "As a final note, I would like to thank again, all of the people who really owned GearUp and made it a resounding success - our customers and partners."
