Taiwan's Largest Financial Services Company Increases Employee Productivity and Will Provide Critical Financial Information Securely to its 10 Million Customers Quickly and Efficiently
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -September 8, 2003- Interwoven, Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV), a world-leading provider of content management software for the enterprise, today announced that Cathay Financial Holdings has completed Phase I of its enterprise information portal (EIP) implementation with Interwoven. Comprised of major subsidiaries such as Cathay Life, Cathay United Bank, and Cathay Century Insurance, Cathay Financial employees across the group have begun to use Interwoven to share information and resources online efficiently. Phase II of the project will start in the second half of this year, and will complete Cathay Financial Holdings' overall eBusiness strategy to develop a single point of access for critical information across the group - increasing employee productivity and fostering knowledge sharing for better customer service.
"Our EIP infrastructure functions across three of the current holdings within Cathay Financial. Therefore, a common content management system was required in order to develop content consistency and improve internal processes," said Pei-Chin Lin, EIP department project manager, Cathay Life, the largest member of the holdings group. "As the leading content management offering, Interwoven provides a platform that enables us to unify content across groups, business applications, and sites to drive content consistency and reuse. With Interwoven, users can share and maintain content efficiently and easily without sacrificing quality or control."
An enterprise information portal is a concept for a Website that serves as a single gateway to a company's information and knowledge base for employees and possibly for customers, business partners, and the general public as well. As the largest and most profitable financial services organization in Taiwan, Cathay Financial Holdings is also the first financial holding group in Taiwan to deploy a comprehensive EIP. Prior to selecting Interwoven, Cathay Financial Holdings had an ASP-based employee portal in place that was deemed insufficient to support the plan for a comprehensive knowledge management portal across the organization.
Phase I of the EIP Goes Live
Cathay Financial Holdings spent seven months assessing internal content management requirements, adjusting workflow to meet the requirements of each group, and compiling data in order to come up with a suitable EIP infrastructure. With Interwoven TeamSite software underpinning the group's content needs together with IBM's WebSphere portal server, the EIP platform was completed on schedule in March, and has been well-received and already widely adopted across Cathay Financial.
"We are very satisfied with the results," said Ashi Ho, EIP department manager, Cathay Life. "The rich, powerful functionality of Interwoven offers Cathay Financial Holdings outstanding content management usability. Using workflow templates and requiring minimal training, employees from across the subsidiaries can create, share, and contribute content from their desktop with any authoring software, and the management team can quickly make changes online. Already, Cathay Financial has seen an elevation of workforce productivity, and projects are being executed more quickly without the help of technical staff."
Interwoven Safeguards Corporate Content
In an era of corporate governance and compliance that has begun to force companies in highly regulated industries such as banking and finance to take action on relevant government regulations, Cathay Financial Holdings is taking advantage of unique Interwoven functionality that provides clear audit trails and internal controls with regard to financial information posted to any public online property. A key item for Cathay Financial in selecting Interwoven was TeamSite's "rollback" feature. With rollback, Cathay Financial can revert to a previous version or any portion of the entire Website at any time. This feature is useful when a previous version of the Website needs to be recreated or provided as a matter of record for the governing authorities.
With the Phase II project underway, the present EIP infrastructure will be further enhanced with knowledge management functionality and work as the umbrella knowledge portal for all staff working throughout the group. The project will also include the content contributed by newest group member United World Chinese Commercial Bank, and with Interwoven, integrating the different companies' content styles and formats will be a critical challenge addressed during Phase II.
Cathay Financial Holdings is confident in and excited about the upcoming project. Lin explained, "We chose Interwoven because it was the most comprehensive platform on the market that met our overall strategic eBusiness needs. We are already pleased with the results of the first phase, and expect to continue to enjoy additional value from Interwoven, both in terms of cost savings, productivity enhancements, and time to market with the completion of the Phase II project."
