Interwoven ECM Platform Powers NEC Public Website, Reducing Costs, Strengthening Compliance, and Improving Content Quality
SUNNYVALE, Calif. - June 28, 2004 - Interwoven, Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV), the world's next-generation enterprise content management (ECM) company, today announced that NEC Corporation, one of Japan's leading providers of Internet solutions, has implemented the Interwoven ECM solution to underpin NEC's "Business Solution" enterprise site (http://www.sw.nec.co.jp/). Early results from the implementation include reduced management costs, strengthened compliance, and overall improvement of content quality.
Our decision to select Interwoven was the result of the products' ability to address our two main concerns: how to make available easy-to-understand and easy-to-access content, while at the same time alleviating the enormous workload plaguing our team as it lifts the burden of managing massive amounts of content," said Shinichi Koike, senior manager of the Communication Promotion Group in NEC's Market Relations Promotion Division. "Perhaps the real deciding factor, however, was Interwoven's high degree of dependability as evidenced by its proven track record in large-scale systems worldwide, as well as its comprehensive workflow functionality."
TeamSite Offers Template and Workflow Functionalities; OpenDeploy Permits Simultaneous Delivery to Two Main Servers
The content, news, and event information related to NEC products and services which is made available on the NEC enterprise site, "Business Solution," is currently compiled daily by the WEB staff which oversees the site, after which it is edited and put through a series of review processes before final posting on the site. Until now, each department contributing information would submit their content by FTP for aggregation on a test server set up by the WEB staff. This content would then be re-formatted for publishing, after which it would undergo a final review by the providing department. Now, with Interwoven TeamSite Content Server software's templating and workflow functionalities, the majority of the content aggregation and review processes have been automated.
Furthermore, the content that had passed the final review phase was previously transferred to the main server for posting on the site, while at the same time a cloning function was used to deliver the same content to a second public server. Now, with Interwoven OpenDeploy Distribution Server software, it has become possible to distribute the content to both servers simultaneously.
Benefits Derived from Using Interwoven ECM
NEC has realized the following benefits by implementing Interwoven:
-Total site management costs have declined as a result of reduced man-hours and greater optimization of human resources;
- Compliance has been strengthened by Interwoven's workflow functionality which has greatly helped to clarify the delineation of responsibility and the approval processes required prior to the posting of the content;
- Overall improvement in the quality of the site as a result of the backup system fortification and simplified trouble-shooting made possible by Interwoven's version control and data source management functionalities.
"From an operations point of view, there has been a major improvement - an overall reduction in the time-to-post process," according to Mr. Koike. "This is the result of a reduction in the number of transactions required, especially the time-consuming transactions between the IT team and the department providing the content, along with the automation made possible by the workflow functionality."
Largest Scale Interwoven Installation
"I am extremely happy that NEC chose Interwoven to manage the enterprise content on their "Business Solution" site, one of the largest in Japan, and that they have already achieved very significant results from using our ECM platform," stated Tadashi Murakami, managing director of Interwoven Japan. "I believe this achievement will prove to be a very valuable example for other companies that are presently operating large-scale enterprise sites and facing content challenges similar to those experienced by NEC."
As for NEC's future plans with Interwoven, Mr. Koike expressed big expectations for the effective utilization of Interwoven products, saying, "We are striving for even greater improvements in productivity and content quality and hope to put Interwoven's templating functionality into greater use throughout our organization. In so doing we want to make the site pages used by our customers easier to use collaboratively and easier to navigate."
