Integration of Interwoven ECM Solutions with Leading Storage Systems Provides Customers with End-to-End Solutions to Address Complex Document Retention and Compliance Mandates at Any Content Level

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - June 28, 2005 - Interwoven, Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV), provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions for business, today announced that it is providing customers with content storage solutions based on integrations with key storage partners including EMC, Network Appliance, and Sun Microsystems. By integrating its proven and widely-adopted Collaborative Document Management and Content Provisioning solutions with industry-leading storage systems, Interwoven is providing customers with end-to-end ECM  solutions to effectively address evolving and often highly-complex document retention and  compliance mandates at any content level.

In today's highly-regulated business environment, emerging compliance regulations are  forcing increased control over all content and communications. With its new content storage solutions, Interwoven is further empowering companies to efficiently manage their content from creation to retention, and ultimately retirement or deletion. Interwoven's content storage solutions include: Storage-Enabled Collaborative Document Management and End-to-End Web Record Retention.

Storage-Enabled Collaborative Document Management

Interwoven is extending its market-leading Collaborative Document Management system through  the integration of Interwoven WorkSite MP software with the EMC Centera(tm) content addressed storage (CAS) solution and disk-based WORM (Write Once, Read Many) storage medium.

As companies strive to meet complex document retention and compliance mandates, Interwoven  has integrated with EMC Centera to enable enterprises to efficiently, securely and cost-effectively manage documents at any level or lifecycle stage-optimizing the balance of document availability and the cost of storage. Using the WorkSite MP Library Manager, customers can determine the appropriate level of storage into Centera, establishing a storage assignment for documents at the library, facility, or workspace level. As a result, less critical documents can leverage inexpensive fileshares, while compliance-related documents can be stored in Centera.

"As enterprises continue to face emerging information management and compliance challenges,  Interwoven's integration with EMC Centera will enable us to satisfy our customers' need for  successfully storing, retrieving and managing documents," said Roy Sanford, vice president of Content Addressed Storage at EMC. "Through the combination of Interwoven's ECM expertise and EMC Centera, we're pleased to empower customers to address their complete range of information management and compliance requirements."

End-to-End Web Record Retention

Web record retention is becoming an increasingly important component of information compliance as emerging SEC and Sarbanes-Oxley regulations apply to customer and internal communications that take place via public-facing websites, intranets, extranets, and applications. In fact, SEC rules 17a-3 and 17a-4 require broker-dealers within the financial services industry to create and preserve a comprehensive record of each securities transaction and of their securities business in general. While most financial services companies already retain e-mail and documents that are exchanged between brokers and customers, many do not keep records of communications that take place via customer websites or Web applications. To address this challenge, Interwoven has extended its Content Provisioning solution to include key WORM storage integrations with: NearStore(r), the world's first unified nearline storage system armed with NetApp SnapLock(; Sun Microsystems Content Infrastructure System; and IBM DR-550 (via systems integrator partner Micro Strategies, Inc).

"As enterprises, particularly in financial services, increasingly use the Web as their primary communications medium, Web data retention will continue to grow in importance," said Patrick Rogers, vice president, Products and Partners at Network Appliance. "Integrating the Interwoven Content Provisioning solution with NetApp SnapLock software reduces customers' exposure to risk by extending record retention beyond e-mail and documents to include Web-related data. SnapLock also offers high performance, open-standards-based WORM capability to address growing regulatory concerns for data permanence, security, and confidentiality. Customers can more easily manage the accuracy, integrity, retention, and security of content delivered through websites and Web-based applications."

The Interwoven Content Provisioning solution is a master deployment system for websites and  applications, deploying all code, content and configurations that flow in an information-rich enterprise. Integrating the Interwoven Content Provisioning solution-the system of record for all Web communications-with WORM storage from any of Interwoven's leading storage partners, delivers an open, unique and comprehensive approach to Web record retention.

"Content and compliance are major areas of concern for our customers, so Sun has focused on  building a comprehensive portfolio of solutions like the Sun Content Infrastructure System - the industry's first fully integrated, multi-tiered content archiving platform - and the Sun StorEdge 5310 Compliance Archiving System, for compliance-ready storage," said Chris Wood, CTO of Data Management Solutions at Sun Microsystems. "The combination of Sun's storage solutions with Interwoven's Content Provisioning solution helps businesses simplify content transactions and Web communications, while ensuring that archived content is secure, accessible, and in full regulatory compliance. Content Provisioning and other Interwoven solutions, like Collaborative Document Management and Web Content Management, can also be integrated with the Sun Java Enterprise System Portal Server, thus delivering a personalized, cost-effective, and secure content infrastructure solution that few companies can match."

"Partnering with leading storage vendors like EMC, Network Appliance and Sun Microsystems  furthers Interwoven's commitment to providing customers with end-to-end solutions to meet key content challenges," said Steve Pattison, vice president of alliances at Interwoven. "As companies continue to grapple with the challenge of achieving full information compliance at all levels of their businesses, our storage content solutions will help them meet strict compliance and document retention mandates, while still achieving a high degree of operational efficiency and cost savings."
