Interwoven Continues Document Management Momentum with Strong Customer Adoption, Industry-Leading Solution Innovation, and Prestigious Awards for ‘Best DM’

Over 1,500 Companies Worldwide Rely on Interwoven for Best-in-Class Usability, Unique Matter-Centric Collaboration Approach, Mobile Document Management, and Deep Microsoft Integration

LONDON, England - Interwoven GearUp '05 Europe ECM Solutions Conference - October 20, 2005 - Interwoven, Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV), provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions for business, today announced that it continues to achieve strong document management (DM) momentum with growing customer adoption, industry-leading solution innovation, and prestigious industry awards. Adding to Interwoven's strong DM position are the company's unique matter-centric collaboration (MCC) approach, innovative mobile document management solution, and deepened integration with Microsoft technologies, including a new integration with Microsoft SharePoint.

Currently, over 1,500 enterprises and professional services organizations worldwide rely on Interwoven DM-based on Interwoven WorkSite-to address key document management, records management, e-mail management, and collaboration processes in a single unified environment. Current customers include: Visa International; Banco Populare di Milano; Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer; Xchanging, a leading UK-based insurance company; Brodies, a top Scottish law firm; Rothschild; Bear Stearns; Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island; PalmSource; DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary, a leading international law firm; Dolby Laboratories; Great Clips; Brooks Pharmacy; Edison Properties; AmLaw 100 firms White & Case and McGuire Woods; and many more.

Long-time Interwoven customers continue to expand their Interwoven implementations with the adoption of Interwoven DM. For example, Visa International, an existing Web Content Management, Digital Asset Management, and Content Distribution customer, recently expanded its Interwoven implementation with the addition of Interwoven DM to facilitate increased productivity, information sharing, and content reuse. Additionally, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, an existing WCM and Content Provisioning customer, also recently adopted Interwoven DM to streamline document-intensive processes across the organization.

Document Management Simplified with Award-Winning Technology

According to IDC, documents are a core component of more than 80 percent of business processes conducted in today's organizations, and the volume of documents created is exploding every year. In fact, the average worker today spends over 13 hours per week creating documents and nearly seven additional hours organizing them. However, even after all this time has been spent, the right documents cannot be found 60-80 percent of the time and must often be recreated. This inability to locate information can pose substantial regulatory and compliance risks, as nearly every organization today is required to securely store, track, and retain documents and e-mails.*

Interwoven DM is enabling organizations to effectively address these challenges by streamlining processes around document creation, collaboration, and archiving. As a result, organizations can increase information compliance, improve operational efficiencies across the organization, and achieve greater productivity. Interwoven DM's proven effectiveness in helping companies achieve this business value has contributed to its ongoing industry recognition through prestigious awards. Recently, Interwoven was honored with the 'Top Document Management' award by the readers of Law Office Computing magazine in its 11th Annual Readers' Choice Awards. Additionally, Interwoven DM was also named to KMWorld's list of 'Trend-Setting Products' for 2005, marking the second consecutive year that Interwoven has been recognized as a technology trend setter by the publication.

"We recognized Interwoven's WorkSite document management system as a technology trend setter because of its exemplary usability, established success in the market, and the clear value it provides to customers," said Hugh McKellar, editor-in-chief of KMWorld. "KMWorld takes great pride in recognizing the companies that are truly having an impact within the technology industry, and we congratulate Interwoven on helping to establish a high standard by which document management systems should be measured across the industry."

Interwoven customers also continue to validate the proven business value of Interwoven DM. Said Eddie Balsom, repository product owner at Xchanging: "Interwoven Document Management is an integral part of our insurance business, enabling us to achieve the high degree of collaboration, content reuse and audit trail reporting that we need from our knowledge management system."

Proven Solution Innovation Drives Document Management Leadership

Interwoven's continued popularity among both customers and industry experts reflects ongoing leadership driven by the company's technology innovation and proven DM solution value. Interwoven is providing customers with the following DM offerings:

  • Matter-Centric Collaboration for Law Firms-Interwoven's Matter-Centric Collaboration (MCC) solution for law firms is based on a unique user-centric design which, for the first time, enables professional services practitioners to manage client and matter-related content in the electronic world the way they have done for more than 100 years in the physical world. Legal professionals can consolidate documents, records, e-mails, billing, contacts, and all other relevant content for any given client or matter in a single integrated file that is accessible both internally and externally across departments and locations.
  • Mobile Document Management-In today's fast-paced environment, lawyers need the ability to access information at any time, from any location. However, until recently, they only had the ability to download specific files to a laptop for remote use, but lacked the ability to automatically access the entire matter file-including utilizing features such as check-in/check-out, versioning, and search-while disconnected from the network. With the Interwoven OffSite module, Interwoven is the first and only vendor to currently provide a truly portable document management offering, enabling lawyers to experience robust document management and e-mail management functionality when disconnected from the network.
  • Interwoven WorkSite for Microsoft SharePoint Integration-Delivering on its expanded partnership with Microsoft, Interwoven recently introduced a new integration with Microsoft SharePoint-Interwoven WorkSite for SharePoint-which extends the ease-of-use and ubiquity of Interwoven DM by enabling business users in the professional services industry to easily access Interwoven DM from within the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 environment.
  • Deal Management-The Interwoven Deal Management solution is a collaborative application to manage proposals, contracts, negotiations, deal processes, and all forms of communications, including e-mail, to keep extended functional teams on the same page around an account, ultimately decreasing deal closing time.
  • Electronic Content Management for Accounting Firms-The Interwoven Electronic Content Management solution enables accounting firms to easily and efficiently create and manage complete client engagement files-including electronic documents, scanned paper documents, e-mails, and records-in one central Web-based system. As a result, firms can expedite client service, maintain financial growth, and retain talent.
  • OTC Derivatives Trading Automation-As a result of Interwoven's recently-announced acquisition of Scrittura-the leading provider of document automation technology for the complex non-exchange based trading operations of financial services institutions-Interwoven is the first ECM vendor to offer a complete solution for the automation of over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives trading. As a result, financial services customers can more quickly and easily conduct complex non-exchange based trades with other financial institutions, reducing costs and increasing process efficiencies.
  • Document Management for Corporate Legal Departments-The Interwoven Document Management for Corporate Legal Departments solution provides an easy and cost-effective way for attorneys to manage matter files electronically, streamline Board of Directors communication, manage e-mail as part of matter files, improve contract management, and consolidate work product received from outside counsel.
  • IT Project Management-The Interwoven IT Project Management solution provides IT departments with a common Web-based dashboard through which they can automate and standardize their numerous projects. By having a consolidated view of all project-related information, project managers are better able to enforce standards for managing relevant content and approvals for each project.

"As we looked at document management systems, we looked at where the vendor would take us in the future and where their technology was heading-Interwoven is using technology and document management beyond the typical scope," said Doug Caddell, CIO, Foley & Lardner, a top U.S. law firm. "Looking at our vision and our strategy, we felt Interwoven would be a strong partner and core vendor for us. Interwoven Document management worked right out of the box and the solution is paying for itself just in terms of increased productivity."

"Interwoven's strong Document Management success continues to be driven by our focus on best-in-class usability and by providing targeted solutions that closely map to key document-centric challenges faced by departments and industries," said Miles Kelly, senior director product marketing, Interwoven. "As we continue to extend our capabilities, Interwoven's focus will remain on bringing to market robust, easy-to-use solutions that organizations can put into place for immediate value."
